Chargers - to be or not to be a fan with the move

Sad doesn't begin to describe how I feel. The San Diego Chargers ownership sent out a letter stating he was packing up and moving the team to L.A. Seriously. A letter. Like we're third grade pen pals. He wasn't brave enough to stand up and tell us to our faces, even through a screen.

We as a fanbase have been given the run around for a long time. After last season, there was hope in getting an extension for at least one more year here in San Diego. Having read many articles since the day they moved, it sounds like the owner moving the team was always going to happen. It was a foregone conclusion, and he'd already decided he didn't want to stay in San Diego. The “hope” we felt was just him putting on a show.

I have been a San Diego Charger fan for more than a decade. Since 2005. My sons were into the NFL and told me I should find a team to cheer for. Since I was watching with them, why not? I watched a number of games but no team stood out. That was until I was able to watch a Chargers game. I immediately fell in love with LT, he was simply amazing to watch! I was hooked! I watched any game we were able to see here, and I even purchased NFL Sunday Ticket one year so I could be sure I would never miss a game! Following that, I was glued to the NFL app and listened to games I couldn't watch on the radio. I loved listening to the guys calling the game, sometimes more than the TV personalities.

When rumours of the team leaving San Diego first started to swirl, I didn't know how I would feel if it actually happened. I am not from San Diego, I have never been to one of their games lives, and yet now that it's happening, I absolutely hate it. I'm pissed off. I'm upset. Especially because of how Spanos just up and moved them, no spoken words, just that damn letter. Devastating. Especially when he was doing press conferences when he got to LA. Upset beyond words.

I hate the thought of cheering for the team in LA, but I love the players. I love Rivers, Gates, Woodhead, Gordon, Bosa, Henry. I care about these guys. I will always wish them success in their careers, but I just do not know if I can say I am a Charger fan now they are in LA. I'm a San Diego Chargers fan, that's what I know. I hate the idea right now of anything else.

Signed ball I won
Some days I feel like being a sports fan is the worst and greatest thing in the world.

I am glad I have some time until next season to figure out if I want to continue watching NFL. I'm having a sizable get-together for the Super Bowl this year, since it's on my birthday! It's going to be a fun day, and my son's team is in, so at least I can cheer for them. Then I'll take a break during the offseason. When the pre-season starts up, maybe I'll see how I feel.

What do you guys think? Are you watching the Super Bowl?
